My 10 favorite items in my closet {right now}

Illustration of 10 clothing pieces

I have what some may call an obsession with clothes. I love getting new pieces and immediately ripping the tags off to wear them. I’ve been known to even wear them out of the store (i’m looking at you Adidas)! But over the years, I’ve really tried to limit how much I’m consuming. Working for myself, and from home, my excuse for things to wear into the office is no longer valid. I’ve also come to realize how awful fast fashion really is. WIth that in mind, I’ve really tried to only buy things that I TRULY love. I find that when I really love an item, I tend to wear it more. A LOT more. I have a few filters I go through to make sure what I’m investing in makes sense for me:

  • How often will I wear it? Cost per wear is a better indicator than the initial cost

  • Is it something that will last with how tough I can be on clothes (if doesn’t hold up after one washing what’s the point)

  • Is it something that sparks an intense need/obsession to have that I can’t explain? This reason is reserved for only a few items in my closet. These tend to be a bit more outrageous, bold, or statement items. The times I’ve bought based on this I have ZERO regrets with those pieces and still wear them today

  • Is it iconic, timeless, or classic? I don’t want a closet full of these items, but you need them to balance out all the other pieces in your wardrobe

  • Is it a missing component in my closet or replacing an item that’s ready to go

When I quickly run an item through the above list, it helps me determine if I should pull the trigger. I’ve found myself investing more in quality and craftmanship and to be honest, those are the items I’m reaching for more and more because they wear and fit well. With that said, these are the ten items I’ve been wearing the most this spring.

Blue button down shirt - the classic men’s shirt in blue that can pair back to just about anything. I love a good men’s shirt, especially with something that has a feminine vibe to make it not so precious. I also love that I can wash and line dry this one with no need to iron.

Dressy Sweatpant - I also have these pants in black tie dye and live in them. They are beyond comfortable and I think they are flattering on everybody. You can dress them up or down and I can’t tell you how many people compliment me on them when I wear them.

Adidas Gazelle - I LIVE in these. Since moving to Sweden I find myself always reaching for my sneakers. There is just SO.MUCH.WALKING. I love the citron and burgundy color combo and they really fell neutral and pair with everything. I own a few other colors as well, but these are the ones I’ve been wearing the most.

Pleated Skirt - I got mine at zara (I’ve linked a similar one) and it’s extremely versatile and well made. I wasn’t sure how much I would wear it so didn’t want to invest to much. The grey tone works with so much and looks just as cute with sneakers as it does sandals and flats.

Track Jacket - this is one of those pieces I saw online and thought I don’t get it, why does everyone want it (it was sold out immediately, I’ve linked the new updated colorways). When I saw it in person in a store and tried it on, I got it. It’s unique, yet familiar and I love the different ways you can wear it. I brought it to Lisbon with me and ended up wearing it almost everyday!

Striped Polo Shirt - I’ve always liked the look of polos, but they never felt like me. Problem was, I wasn’t shopping in the men’s department. I was always looking at women’s styles, which IMO are always cut too fitted, the sleeves are shorter and tighter too. I got this one in the mens department and sized up to give it a relaxed, chill vibe and I LOVE it.

Basic Tanks - I have these tanks in every color from H&M. I love the cut and how thick they are.

Barrel Leg Chino - Another cult favorite, these pants were sold out forever and then I was finally able to find them in green. I like barrel legged pants, but I also know they are VERY polarizing. These aren’t as dramatic as some and are so crazy comfy I could wear them all the time. They do run big, so I recommend going down a size (or two if you don’t have curves or are petite)

Trench Coat - I can’t tell you how many times I’ve tried to be a trench coat girl. I even invested in a Burberry once and only wore it a few times before selling it. I love them on others, but never felt quite right in them. Enter the Clyde Trench from Sezane. I think the key for me is it’s single breasted and a bit oversized. More my vibe and less traditional (to my husband’s dismay!)

Sling Bag - If you like fashion, you have to follow Carla. She designed this bag and I have to say, it’s wonderful. I have it in merlot and it holds a lot yet looks chic. It’s got a nice slouch and is comfortable to wear while walking around all day.

So there you have it, my current top hits in my closet that are getting a lot of air time. What are some of your favorite pieces? Is there anything you’ve bought recently that you are obsessed with? Do tell!
